Job SummaryThe Underwriting Manager reports to the AVP of Underwriting and is responsible for managing underwriting and rating operations in assigned states or territories to achieve corporate operating, financial, people and customer goals .
Responsibilities:
Meet or exceed new business production, retention, and profitability goals for the assigned territory.
- Make and manage underwriting decisions within territory to accept, decline or modify risks.
- Achieve profitability of assigned territory book: develop, recommend, and, implement necessary action plans including changing eligibility, pricing and forms.
- Evaluate competitive position of products in the market place for pricing and coverage.
- Partner with marketing to identify new opportunities for product enhancements.
- Review complex referrals including composite rating, large deductibles, and manuscript forms.
- Ensure compliance with all industry and state regulations for assigned territory.
Manage staff members and ensure staff are qualified, trained, and developed to meet business opportunities.
- Through direct and indirect supervision: recruit, select, train, mentor, develop, and manage quality and performance of staff members such that goals are met or exceeded, and staff engagement and satisfaction are high
- Achieve exceptional customer service by meeting or exceeding established service standards.
Serve as a functional expert as needed on information technology issues that affect the territory or department.
- Monitor and review Agency Link automated rules.
- Partner with other functional departments on business project implementation.
- Assist with workflow design and management.

- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree preferred. 10 years of work experience in the insurance industry with solid knowledge of risk selection and pricing. - Insurance or course designations required (e.g. CIC, CPCU).
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
