Job SummaryReporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for managing the Finance Department, maintaining and reviewing the financial statements of the company, and acting in a fiduciary capacity to safeguard its assets.
Goals
Within the first 3 to 12 months, you will:
1. Learn the roles, accountabilities, and goals of all positions that report directly to the Controller. Currently this is a staff of six employees and includes: Statistical Accounting Manager, two Senior Accountants, Accountant II, and the Purchasing Agent. (3 months)
2. Manage Finance department ensuring timely (by the 15th) and accurate reporting of financial results. (3 months)
3. Communicate results and resolve any issues regarding the internal monthly financial statements. (6 months)
4. Manage the quarterly financial accounting and reporting of the NAIC statement filed in all licensed states. (9 months)
5. Manage the year-end financial accounting and reporting of the NAIC statement filed in all licensed states and all other required regulatory filings. This would include a working knowledge of all Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAPs) that impact our business. (12 months)
6. Coordinate external audit of the Company including the completion of client assistance package and review of statements and footnotes. (12 months)
Duties
- Effectively supervise the Finance Department: perform all BMIC people management duties, including appraisal, goal setting, and daily management; ensure both internal and external customers’ expectations are being met.
- Manage company statistical reporting functions to regulatory agencies, bureaus and associations.
- Manage statutory financial accounting and reporting activity, including but not limited to quarterly and annual financial statements, compliance with federal and state regulatory reporting requirements and communication with insurance regulatory authorities.
- Manage banking and investment relationships, corporate fixed assets, statutory reserves and general corporate expenses.
- Safeguard the company assets by generating inquiries and making recommendations regarding income, expenses, assets and liabilities.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree from a qualified college or university with a concentration in Accounting or Finance and a minimum 5 years previous insurance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A current CPA license is required, preferably from North Carolina
- Strong analytical and computer skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers
Job Preferences
- Knowledge of statutory accounting principles and general ledger systems

Job SummaryThis position will start as a temporary to hire, with the temporary period not to exceed 90 days. This position is a part of the career path in our Underwriting department and offers a great opportunity for growth and development.
As a Rater 1 you are responsible for entering and processing commercial insurance quotes, new business, endorsements and renewals with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness. This position has both quality and productivity accountabilities that must be maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Review underwriting files for accuracy and completeness

Enter data into basic contract screen

Allocate funds received to proper line of business

Apply the appropriate rating rules

Code commercial line policies

Process approved endorsements

Check rating worksheet for accuracy, referring to Commercial Lines Manual (CLM) as necessary

Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications

Associate degree preferred with at least two years experience in an insurance environment, preferably in rating or with exposure to commercial insurance rating, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong computer (MS Office, C.0, ImageRight), data entry, and customer service skills.

Demonstrated organizational, planning and management skills.

Typing skills of 45 wpm and general math skills needed. Both are tested prior to employment.
